Blaagaard/KDAS is a Teachers Training College situated in greater Copenhagen. The academic level for the teacher education programme corresponds to an UK/US Bachelor Degree, bachelor of Education.
Students in Danish higher education work independently and exercise their own initiative. As well as attending traditional lectures, they study in small groups where they are expected to make active contributions. Part of their studies consists of independent project and research work. Most degree courses are self-contained and students choose their field of specialization when commencing their studies. All programmes include the preparation of either a major project report, a thesis or a dissertation, depending on the level of the degree.
As a primary and lower secondary school teacher you teach chilkdren and young people. You should enjoy working with children and be constantly prepared to explore new fields of knowledge. At Blaagaard Teachers Training College you learn to plan your teaching - the academic as well ad educational aspects. Your point of origin will be within your primary subject, and you will pass your knowledge on to the pupils. As a teacher your primary busines is to make sure that all pupils receive the necessary challenges and learn as much as possible within the subject in question. When planning your teaching you must choose and work by methods, which take into consideration the individual pupils and their qualifications and develoment.
The bachelor of Education is of four-year duration and integrates subjects and theoretical, profesional and practical teacher preparation. As a student you must choose af main subject - Danish and/or mathematics, furthermore the student must choose three other main subjects, which ar taught in Danish elementary school.
The programme iincludes common core subjects, such as theory of education, psychology, general didactics, school and society, religious studies and philosophy, teaching practice (24 weekes) and thesis.
